Our Work
The pictures which we sell in the Crail Gallery usually have a close link with our interest in printmaking. We specialise in small runs of hand-made linocut and silkscreen prints.
The linocuts are relief prints taken from blocks of linoleum on which the image has been cut away using gouging tools. The blocks are inked using rollers, the image is then transferred to paper using a hand printing press. The silkscreen prints are made using a hand printed process using separations for each colour, eventually transferring the image to paper using inks and a squeegee. No two linocut or silkscreen prints will be identical - slight differences in ink colour and registration result in every print being unique. This is part of the character of a hand-made print.
Every limited edition print is signed by the artist. All prints are printed on specialist mould-made, deckle edged papers using high quality linseed oil or water based inks.
We print the linocuts on our Victorian cast iron bookbinding presses here in the Crail Gallery workshop, and are always happy to give demonstrations!
Some of our pictures are unique, one-off paintings often using a combination of hand-printed papers collaged together with other mediums.
As our work evolves we aim to show a changing selection of prints and pictures.
