David Sim
David Sim was born in Glasgow in 1953. He studied illustration and graphic design at the Edinburgh College of Art from 1972-76, where he met his wife Susie Lacome. He then took a post-graduate MA at the Royal College of Art in London, graduating in 1980. After leaving he continued to work in London as a freelance illustrator for a wide variety of magazines, design groups and advertising agencies. His projects included work for clients both in the UK, Europe and the US. During this period he won many awards both in the UK and Europe for his work. These included brochure covers, posters, animation and packaging work, as well as publishing and work for a wide range of charities including Action Aid, Oxfam and Lynx. He also taught and lectured throughout the UK and Ireland as a visiting illustration lecturer and assessor at many colleges. In 1988 he and his family returned to live in Scotland first for a period in Edinburgh and then in Crail. He continued to work for design and publishing clients as well as starting to work as a printmaker, first in Dundee and more recently in The Crail Gallery which he founded with his wife Susie in 2000. He has also spent much time developing ideas and writing for children's books and has a wide range of titles published world - wide. His most recent titles include; Matt's Mat and Matt's Hat, published by Piggy Toes Books, and The Sheep Fairy published by Chicken House/Scholastic to much acclaim both here and in the US. His latest award winning book, Jungle School is published by Egmont Books in the UK in 2006, and Panda's Pants will be published by Tango Books in Spring 2006. Two new books pop up books - Rab's Big Day and Jump Freddy Jump! will also be published by Tango Books in Spring 2007. He is currently working on four new titles Bumble the Bee and Pals for Pan Macmillan, for publication in 2008. His printmaking work can be seen exclusively at The Crail Gallery.
